This year one of my favourites might actually win. I haven’t had a shot at this for years.

Best Picture
Should win:
Brokeback Mountain
Really by far the best film in this race.
Will win: Here’s hopin’…

Best Actress
Should win:
Claire Danes Shopgirl… but she’s not even nominated.
Will win: Reese Witherspoon Walk the Line, a good second choice.

Best Actor
Should win:
This year they all deserve it.
Will win: Philip Seymour Hoffman Capote
No matter how good the others were, he’s got it locked. It’s his reward for a great career.

Best Supporting Actor
Should win:
William Hurt’s performance in A History of Violence is the strongest here.
Will win: Paul Giamatti Cinderella Man but not because this movie was any great shakes. He’ll get it because he’s been stiffed before.

Best Supporting Actress
Should win:
Rachel Weisz The Constant Gardener and Michelle Williams Brokeback Mountain are the only ones who deserve to be here.
Will win: Weisz because she was never on Dawson’s Creek.

Best Director
Should win:
Ang Lee Brokeback Mountain for creating another masterpiece.
Will win: If there is a God it will be Ang.
