Junebug is the story of… well, maybe I shouldn’t tell you.
I went into this film without any knowledge of what kind of a story I was getting into. Is it a romance? An adventure? A mystery? Why do we have to know? I didn’t know and instead I let the film’s story unfold for me without any expectations.
I will say that Junebug is a comedy and a good one. I laughed quite a bit. Okay, maybe not hard, side-splitting laughs, but a lot of very satisfying chuckles. Junebug is very satisfying and entertaining for its 107 minutes.
Having said all that, Junebug is not an overly memorable film. It didn’t offer up anything new or surprising. It was just entertaining enough to be enjoyable without dramatically changing my life or anything. It does get us to think about some of the assumptions we might have about “hicks” (for lack of a better word) but besides that it’s just a pleasant story. Shouldn’t more movies be this good?
I won’t say anymore than that except that you should give Junebug a shot. It won’t be a disappointment.
