A few great laughs, a few great breasts and some not so great full-monty shots. What more could you ask for?
Mrs. Henderson Presents is hilarious. The jokes are dirty but classy, the story is engaging enough to carry you from one joke to the next and the film is good all around.
Mrs. Henderson Presents is the story of a rich English widow who is bored with widowhood and opens a theatre to entertain herself. Spoiled an arrogant, she says what's on her mind and isn't afraid to talk like a sailor. To entertain the soldiers, she puts on tasteful reviews featuring nude women which keep up morale. Along the way she encounters the usual prissy resistance to anything not buttoned down but mostly it's a simple story of seeking out joy amidst the ruins of civilization's bonds.
Judy Dench has proven herself to be a master comedian long before this film, but Mrs. Henderson Presents ends up being a tour de force for her. Even more fun is the wily Bob Hoskins who bravely drops trou along with the performers.
Raunchy and fun and just a little touching, Mrs. Henderson Presents is a comedy worth laughing with.
