I'll admit right off the bat I wasn't a fan of the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I found the humor mostly clunky, the plot predictable, the performances wooden (with a few bright spots like Andrea Martin), and the emotions fake. This is one of those carbon copy sequels where you take all the basics of the first one and then just rearrange them and serve them up a second time. It's the cinematic equivalent of left overs. There is a grand history of these disappointments like Sister Act 2, Anchorman 2, Zoolander 2 and here we have another.

The problem here is how it highlights how poor the first one was. Unlike some of those others I mentioned where the first film had something special, some spark, seeing it redone we realize that the first Wedding was pretty weak. There was never really any chemestry between Vardalos and Corbett. The jokes weren't really very funny. It doesn't' hold up over time and this sequel just reminds us of that.

Once again the bright spot is Martin but she's not enough to make this worth sitting through. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is mostly cringe worthy.
